I Spoke Too Soon

I said it was a quiet Sunday.....Tom goes outside and is mumbling something about a noise...sounds like....let me get a flashlight.....

So he's gone for a while and I'm wondering whatz up.  I go out onto the back deck only to hear him fussing to himself, "...and I don't know what to do".  Last week before last we had 2 baby goats born (4-12).  There was one baby lost on our side of the farm and that is what Tom spied.  I went out to see, and told him to keep an eye on him while I put on long pants and some shoes.  This is what we found:

It's a wonder I didn't frighten this little guy to his death in the dark and without any make up!!!!  He was so far from his mommy and she couldn't hear him cry.  I went into the field with a towel and scooped him up and told him everything was alright.  Tom called Nanny to turn on the back lights for me and I drove down to meet her with the kid.  When I got him there, all the big goats got spooked --  after all it was 9pm and they were sleeping.  I put him down and told him to find momma, but he ran back to me.  I did this again and he ran back to me, this time going through the fence.  All the time I was yelling for Peanut (the oldest goat in the bunch and the family pet) to take everybody back to the barn.  Finally got him scooped back up and Peanut got the gang led back to the barn.  They must have "talked" because they all stood out there waiting...and baby was "talking" too.  I put him down again and he stood there a minute calling to momma and finally walked over to her.  Boy was he hungry!  We saved the day.

And no....he didn't poop or pee on me!  Whew!
