Post Card Tour Update

y'all out there in J-land.  I'm touring the USA via post cards and I gotta tell ya...this is fun!  I have been so excited every since I received the first card.....can hardly wait to see what Mrs Postlady brings me next.  My hubby & kid must think I'm nutz because everytime we stop I'm heading to the postcard rack to see what is good.

We were in Myrtle Beach  ( http://www.myrtlebeach.com/) for the weekend and I only grabbed 2...didn't want to look like a tourist.  We're there so much (only 1.5 hrs away) that it is like a 2nd home to us.

The city that I work in (Wilmington) is known for it's Azalea Festival  (http://www.ncazaleafestival.org/).   I picked out a cute post card of Azaleas.  There is a parade each year, several days of a circus, concerts, street vendors and a celebrity Queen!  Here are Azalea Belles.

USS North Carolina We are home to the U.S.S. North Carolina Battleship.  My Dad helped to wire the electricity to it in 1965.  It resides in the Cape Fear River.

th_CFMBday.jpg   th_CapeFearMemorialBridge.jpg This is the Cape Fear and that is my "Daddy's Bridge" ... I named it that because when it was being built my Dad was one of the electrician's on the job.

Then the other Island that I frequent is Wrightsville Beach.  Over-rated, this place and high in prices. It used to be quaint when I was a weee girl, but there has been so much built and parking is slim to none unless you arrive early to sunbathe.  Eating an evening meal here is good, you are usually guaranteed fresh seafood (as opposed to unfresh???)  .... love those signs "Fresh Shrimp", "Fresh Flounder" ....like I'd buy or eat "Spoiled Shrimp" or "Old Flounder".  Oddly enough, I don't eat fish.  Only shellfish like shrimp, crab or clams and that is IT!!

Then there is Carolina Beach or Pleasure Island to the South of Wilmington.  This sleepy fishing town is quickly catching up to Wrightsville.....they have their first megga chain hotel now.

Now MY neck of the woods consists of Topsail Island.....it is very quiet and not tooooo commercial.  Here's a ditty from  http://www.topsailisland.com/

opsail Island is a 26-mile long barrier island off the coast of North Carolina. It comprises three communities: North Topsail Beach, Surf City and Topsail Beach. Topsail Island is a well kept secret with its pristine beaches and "real beach" atmosphere. If you want to avoid the hustle and bustle of busy beaches, then Topsail Island is the place for you. The Topsail area extends to the mainland with two additional communities: Sneads Ferry and Holly Ridge. Topsail Island has a fantastic heritage with tales of pirate ships during the 1700's and experimental rocket launchings during World War II. Legend has it that Blackbeard's treasure is still buried somewhere around here.

Operation Bumblebee  Surf City Pier  The heart of Surf City.

Hope you enjoyed a little visit to my side of the great USA!!!!!!

you live in a beautiful area...all the things I love, water, seafood & beaches! I live on a great lake, so I can kinda fool myself into thinking I'm at the beach. LOL. I've never been to the east coast, except for FL. It looks so gorgeous!
Thanks for the tour!

LOL...stop it...I'm getting depressed.  I've been to Wrightsville Beach and Topsail Island.  I'd sell one of my kids to go to Topsail again, not really, oh yeah I would.  Hugs  Chris

Hmmm....I like the sound of Topsail Island.    That would be the one for me.  Blackbeard's treasure huh?

You are just soooo mean.  I'm only 2.5 hours away and can't get there.  But my bones ache for the coast.  Really loved the entry.

I enjoyed your tour and post cards.     My building project has slowed to a crawl as I am having low lumbar sharp pain.     I am going at it slowly and supervising the work of the carpenter as he cannot be left alone to do the work.    He is a basket case that talks continuously instead of working so I hope to still save money using him at a lower pay rate.     At least he does the heavy lifting with the concrete work we are doing now starting in the late afternoon.    I have just been resting on my board/cushion to be relieved of the back pain.      I am keeping a positive attitude that it will get built.     Hope you and your husband are doing well and I always enjoy my communication with you.       mark
