Mom called earlier to say they were putting in a pacemaker and I thought she said a difib too (didn't make sense to me).
I just got off the phone with her and all is well. I could hear him in the back ground asking her if she wanted part of the meal they brought him.....she laughed a bit and said "No dear"....I don't blame her!
Hospital food YUK!!
The nurses will be monitoring his BP every 15 mins (I could hear the nurse in the back ground talking too) and they will also do an EKG and an X-ray later. More than likely he'll be home on Friday!
Mom asked if he'd be able to feel the apparatus when it went off and their remark was "Oh yeah, it's like a horse kicking you".
Hmmmmmmm
Heart attack or my machinery? How do you determine???

hospital food is the pits. will keep your dad in prayer. my FIL has a pacemaker and he can't feel anything. ((((hugs))))

He must have an irregular heart beat and they may use the defibulator to cause his heart to go back to a regular rythym. The defib will feel like a horse kicking him. If they don't do the defib, they will put in a pacemaker to get his heart in a normal and constant rythym. Either way, I'll keep your FIL in my prayers and I also wish you a safe weekend on your dance trip.

I hope he gets to feeling better after they put that pacemaker in. Take care and have a good Friday.

wishing your dad well
oh boy, i will be thinking of him and hoping all goes well. At our local hospital they have the BEST FOOD! LOL Truly. It is like a restaurant.
LOVE, lisa
Oy, it's probably the defib they are talking about. My neighbor has one. It doesn't go off very often but it's like an electric current that goes through him. Sort of like those paddles but inside the body. It does work for him, though, very well. Love ya, Chris
wishing your dad well! keeping him in my thoughts and prayers too!

He is going to feel so much better. The pacemaker/defirillator are a combined unit. The surgery is very simple and the incision is only 2 1/2 - 3 inches long. I'm sure once he gets used ot it he wouldn't even think about it.
hugs, Bethe
Continued well wishes for your dad

The difib makes sense when you say that it feels like a horse kicking you. Amazing technology! Praying for all to go well.

Oh, wow, I just read the last couple of entries....your stepdad sounds like my husband Rob. He just can't keep still -- he's always doing stuff around the house or the yard. Piddling. He likes to stay busy like your stepdad, who I imagine has been miserable not having the energy to DO things like he's used to. As Bethe said, though, hopefully with this pacemaker, he will be restored to his original energy level!! Wouldn't that be great?!
Take care,
:) Carol
Sure hope your dad will be okay. Keeping him in prayer. Hope he does get to go home today.

My dad had a defib - yes, when in kicks in "kicks" is a good word for it. You know on medical shows when they yell "clear" and zap someone? It's just like that, like having a little doctor in there, 'cept he don't give warning and yell "clear" first!!
He'll most definitely know the difference between heart attack and machinery -- The defib is a quick zap and then it's over. It's amazing what they can do these days! Hugs, Martha :-)
My husband has had a pacemaker/defib (yes they are in the same instrument) for seveal years with no problems.
