Common Courtesy not so common anymore

birthday.gif My daughter turns 10 tomorrow (20th)....TEN!  I survived the terrible two's now it's the troublesome ten that is upon me, Tween they call it.  That is my next phase.  I've been teasing her that 10 yr old lil girls are a pain!  She even said she'd live with her grandma till she was at least 12 or 14.

I really should let her do that and pay back my Mom for..........nevermind.

Anywho, common courtesy, yes, that's where I was going here.  For the past 4 years we've been involved with the Nutcracker production, Miss T hasn't had a birthday "party" (which suits me fine).  It just gets so hectic so close to performance time.

birthdayballoonsMA13444938-0062.gif

This year she's turning double digits....leaving the singles and beginning a new phase.  It seemed a party was in order so I agreed.  Pool party with Pizza at the YWCA.  16 invitations were handed out; $100 for the pool reservation (up to 20 people, not a bad price); $$ cake; $$ pizza; $$ goodie bags.

How many people do you think actually called me via the RSVP info to let me know yay or nay?

Three calls.  One was a "Nay".

One verbal "nay" - gonna be outta town.

Two verbal "Yay"...one didn't show up.

Two of the 3 calls were from long time friends from school.  Kassie & Shelby.  The NAY call was from a dance kid we didn't expect would come.

My kid had 3 children show up for her party.

Never again!  Not till she's 16.  I will not plan another party.  I will agree to sleepovers with a couple of friends, take them to a movie or skating, whatever and dinner, and have a cake but that IS IT!  No more hoopla and stress.

It is not fair to my kid to have her heart set on a fun time only to get let down.  Sure she had a good time with these 3....but 2 classmate's excuses were "I don't know where it is"  HELLO!!!  Friggin phone number on the invite people  - CALL ME!

happybirthbear.gif I would have rather taken my money and treated my baby to something special for her birthday.

Now I feel robbed.

I know our lives are busy, but a phone call would have been nice.  Maybe I could have cancelled the pool reservations (and only paid $5 per kid to swim;  hmmmmm $5x4 verses $100).

Thanks for listening to me whine!

Hope your daughter has a Happy Birthday today anyway. Some people just don't know any common courtesy. All that money spent and if you had of known they wasn't coming you could have just had the pizza and cake at home. Hugs, Helen

Yikes!!  I just don't understand the lack of commitment of some people.  If you say you're gonna be there, BE THERE!!  If the parent can't make it, they should have called you to perhaps make other arrangements, maybe you could have picked a few up.  They surely have 10 year old daughters, thus the reason for the invite, so put their daughter in your daughter's place.  My sister had a birthday party for her daughter when she was 2, and most of it was family, of course, and they just took advantage.  Never again.  For subsequent birthdays, they took trips, or just did something special for her.  She is 20 now, and hasn't missed a thing!!  Lesson learned.  Take care...

Aahhrghhh I went through the same thing this weekend!! Hailey turned 12 on the 19th.  We had a hotel pool party with 9 girls. (10 with Hailey). Also, 5 pizzas, cake, ice cream & goodie bags with 10 $5 Claire's gift cards. Reee-diculous!! This is the LAST YEAR I am doing this crazy party-mania with 10 kids.  They were hard to control. LOL. The only thing that was awesome was that they all went home at 8:30 and no one spent the night, and Mike, Hailey & I got to hang out in the hotel room in peace & quiet. YAY!

I told her next year she would get to bring ONE friend out for dinner & to a movie or perhaps sleep over at a hotel. ONE FRIEND.

I feel your pain!!
HUGS

Oh man, that sucks and is so disappointing! I never do parties for the kids anymore. We do "King or Queen" for the day instead. They get to pick a special place to go, decide what and where we eat all day, have cake at grandma's house and go on a little shopping spree. It works for us.
Happy Birthday to the big 10 year old!

Happy Belated to Miss T.  Sorry about the rude RSVPs.  Same thing happened to my oldesn't son's daughter on HER 10th.  So she probably won't be getting a big planned out party like that one anymore either.
Hope you have a good Thanksgiving week.

I have had this happen many times; the best are the ones who rsvp that their child is coming and then they don't show up. It is so frustrating. You wonder how people can be so rude and why it does not bother them that they are so rude. How do they not see that this is rude???Sorry this happened but I am glad your daughter had a fun time with her friends that were there.

I guess you will have to look at the hundred dollars as a donation to the YMCA that gives many in need kids a chance to participate in the activities.     As far as your daughter's friends she now knows who her real friends are.     She must appreciate your caring about her to have made the arrangements and remember the fun she had with the few that were there.     Wishing her a late 'Happy Birthday' from me and Salty in S. Illinois!    mark

That's horrible!  People are so rude and inconsiderate anymore.  My kids had those birthday parties.  It used to drive me crazy but most times it ended up more showed up than invited.  Never could figure that one out.  Poor Ms. T...I don't blame you a bit.  I would spoil her rotten on her special day but never expose her to the disappointment that comes with rudeness.  HUGS  Chris

OMG that really bites!  Sorry I am just reading this now.  That poor girl.  I hope she had fun anyway.  I can't even imagine.  Out of all those people only 3 showed up.  That is horrible.  People have no respect for anyone else.

BTW, YOU have a 10 year old???!!!!!  That is a huge milestone.

I know exactly what you mean.  I have also noticed that people have no manners these days.  An RSVP should be respected.  I think it's that this generation and the last have no education in this regard.  It means in French, Respondez-vous s'il vous plais... and you would think people would have been taught this by their parents.  Somewhere along the way this generation needed to read Dear Abby and take some Betty Crocker courses and learn about proper manners.  We southern belles will just have to show them, even though I am half Yankee I do respect an RSVP.  Don't blame ya for feeling the way ya do.  Happy Bday to Tara!!   Luv Ya, Hugs,
Lisa

when did you have to start giving goodie bags?  LOL isn't it enough to come to a party with free food and games?  I just don't understand goodie bags.
