The Golden Compass Review, Good or Bad??

Subject: The Golden Compass, a new movie coming Dec. 7<?XML:NAMESPACE PREFIX = O />

There is a new movie opening this Dec. 7 that will be heavily promoted as a children’s film that everyone needs to be aware of.  It is called The Golden Compass, starring Nicole Kidman.  It is based on a series of children’s books written by British author Philip <?XML:NAMESPACE PREFIX = ST1 />Pullman called His Dark Materials.  Pullman is a dedicated atheist, and his books are intended to be the antithesis of C.S. Lewis’ Narnia Chronicles, which Pullman professes to despise.  World Magazine reviewed Pullman’s books in 2001, in which they stated “His Dark Materials is a direct attack on Christianity, the church, and God Himself.  Never has an overtly atheistic theme been so successfully peddled to young people.  His Dark Materials (a title borrowed from Milton) purports to recast the story of Paradise Lost, but in this version Satan, with his principle of cosmic rebellion, is the hero.”

I've seen the trailer for this. Not sure if I want to see it.  I do want to see the Will Smith film and the National Treausre movie coming out nest week.  Take care and have a nice weekend.

We've discussed this in our family already.  First commercial came on and the daughter instantly said "Ooooh I want to see that!"  Then I read all the hoopla about it.  Looks like it will be one for just the adults in our house...if we even decide to see it.

There are so many other good films out this time of year I figure why risk seeing one that will send a bad message to our child.  What will you do?  See it or not?

The things I learned in life is if you have a faith or not a movie will not sway your thinking.

A lot was said like that about the Harry Potter movies and to be honest, I've seen everyone and think they're great children's movies.  As far the golden compass, I won't make judgement until I've seen it.  I couldn't imagine Nicole Kidman whose a Catholic to be in such a movie it did attack the church and Christianity.  Enjoy your weekend.

IMO, mostly everything out there goes aganist God but yet people flock to see it all and TiVo what they can't get to.  I've been waiting for The Golden Compass to come out for a few weeks now.  I'll make my own opinions about it after I see it.

Thank you for sharing.  I will probably choose not to see it knowing this information and so appreciate the information.  Especially being a mother of three children and all the other things out there to influence them down the wrong path.  It is so hard these days to keep a family on the right path.
